This post will cover recent breakthroughs in renewable energy technologies and possible renewable technologies that could come out in the future.
1. Nuclear Energy:
Nuclear energy has become sort of taboo since the nuclear meltdowns that occurred in Japan, but the industry is still a bright hope for humanity. Nuclear energy comes in two categories, fission and fusion. Fission reactors are the reactors we all know about. The reactors that are big large cylinders that produce toxic waste, but fusion reactors are quite different, fission reactors are not without their benefits though. Fission reactors are actually quite safe, especially now days, due to the staff that monitor them 24/7, and the protocols in place to keep them maintained. But fission reactors due produce unwanted waste, and consume a somewhat limited resource of radioactive material. This waste that is produced is being heavily researched however, and possible prototypes for machines to turn said waste into non harmful substances are being pursued. Fusion reactors on the other hand are very new and in their infancy, but operate on the same principles as the sun. There is currently a test prototype being manufactured that has proven to have the possibility of being the future of energy production. The only thing you need to keep it running is 2 isotopes of helium which are found in abundance on the moon, and it creates a massive amount of electricity. If we build the infrastructure to move these isotopes from the moon to earth, and get reactors like these in every city, then we would have virtually no power issues for the forseeable future.
