This post will cover recent breakthroughs in renewable energy technologies and possible renewable technologies that could come out in the future. 1. Nuclear Energy: Nuclear energy has become sort of taboo since the nuclear meltdowns that occurred in Japan, but the industry is still a bright hope for humanity. Nuclear energy comes in two categories, fission and fusion. Fission reactors are the reactors we all know about. The reactors that are big large cylinders that produce toxic waste, but fusion reactors are quite different, fission reactors are not without their benefits though. Fission reactors are actually quite safe, especially now days, due to the staff that monitor them 24/7, and the protocols in place to keep them maintained. But fission reactors due produce unwanted waste, and consume a somewhat limited resource of radioactive material. This waste that is produced is being heavily researched however, and possible prototypes for machines to turn said waste into non harmfu...
This post will act as a place to learn about different kinds of renewable energy technologies. 1. Solar: Gets the energy from the sun. The more surface area, and the more advanced the solar panel, the more energy produced. Completely renewable with no known impact other than the manufacturing of the solar panels. 2. Wind: Gets the energy from the wind. Not always reliable, and can sometimes fail if not maintained properly (as seen recently with the Texas power outages), but in the right place they can produce a lot of energy with minimal maintenance, with somewhat steep manufacturing prices. 3. Hydro Electric: Gets energy from large bodies of water or flowing water that is used to turn turbines. Dams such as the hoover dam are examples of hydroelectric power, and harness controlled amounts of water stored about to create massive amounts of energy, but the building costs and maintenance on dams are extensive and pricey. If a dam were to fail, it could end up causing massive uncontr...
This post will act as a place for you to learn ways to save energy in simple ways. 1. Simply being conscious of energy consumptions, and turning things off in your home can make a big difference in your energy consumption, especially if you go to the extreme of doing things like your laundry by hand or wearing more clothing in the winter. 2. Buying new light bulbs can help considerably since more recent lightbulbs have become a lot more energy efficient in comparison to old incandescent light bulbs. The shelf price might be more, but it will save you more money on your bill, and help use less energy over the long term. 3. Using smart power strips can save you a lot of money long term, and decrease your power usage considerably. Many home electronics still draw a small amount of power even when turned off and plugged in. This causes unnecessary energy usage that can be solved by a smart power strip that prevents electronics that are turned off from drawing power. 4. Using a smart thermo...
